I had been working as sociologist - researcher and university lecturer - for about 20 years. Once I had achieved all that I could in my profession - academic recognition and respect from students, interesting research projects and publications, and a PhD and doctorate - I decided to change my field radically - to become a software developer - and I succeeded. I taught myself programming and everything related to it. I have now been working as a software developer for about 6 years.
